Schenectady Mayor and President of Union College Endorse the Firm’s Strong Impact in the Capital Region and Beyond

The new name reflects Michael Suprunowicz’s contributions to the firm. Suprunowicz has been the firm’s President and managing shareholder since 2003.

“Michael’s reputation in estate law is widely recognized throughout the region,” said Lawrence A. DeAngelus, Esq., a principal with the firm. “His major contributions to the firm and our community, as well as his leadership skills, have made him optimally suited to guide our 175-year-old company into the next era of its history.”

Suprunowicz, a native of Schenectady, has been with the law firm since 1980.

“Since our inception, we have been and remain committed to providing legal representation to families and businesses in our community, to the best of our abilities,” Suprunowicz said. “The firm’s motto has long been: ‘Not to be served, but to serve.’ This core value has been the cornerstone of our business philosophy and has helped our firm persevere for nearly two centuries.”

Political and business leaders attended the press conference in recognition of the firm’s 175-year milestone and to point out the importance of companies that make long-term commitments to the region.

“Higgins, Roberts & Suprunowicz, P.C., has endured the test of time and has provided important contributions to the city of Schenectady and our surrounding communities,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy. “Firms like Higgins, Roberts & Suprunowicz, P.C., play a vital role in supporting families and businesses, such as SI Group, Inc. and Trustco Bank, which have chosen to make their home in Schenectady County.”

Since the 1960s, Higgins, Roberts & Suprunowicz, P.C., has maintained a strong relationship with Union College, itself one of the oldest colleges in the country. Today the firm is general counsel for the higher education institution, and one of the partners, Richard Fuerst, chairs its annual business campaign.

“Similar to Higgins, Roberts & Suprunowicz P.C., Union College has celebrated a long and fruitful relationship with the Capital Region,” said Union College President Stephen Ainlay. “Since accepting my position at Union College, I have had the pleasure of interacting with several members of the firm in their support of our institution and am grateful for their volunteer service and legal contributions.”

The firm was also recognized by The Chamber of Schenectady County for its contributions to business and arts organizations in the community.
