Step Four: Paid Promotion on Facebook

Facebook-PromotionsWhat is Organic Promotion?

Organic promotion refers to the News Feed stories automatically generated from the actions taken by people on your Facebook Page or Page posts. For example, when someone likes something you post to your Page, their friends may see a story about it in News Feed and then visit your page.

What are Boosted Posts?

Boosted posts appear higher in News Feed, so there’s a better chance your audience will see them. Boosted posts are labeled Sponsored. Boosted posts don’t appear in the right column of Facebook.

When you boost a post from your Page, you can choose to show it in the News Feeds of the People who like your Page and their friends or People you choose through targeting. If you boost your post to people you choose through targeting, you can add the location, age, gender and interests of the people you’d like to reach.

You can select the number of days you want your boosted post to run. When you boost a post from your Page, click More Options and select the duration of your boost. You can always pause and resume or delete a boosted post.

The cost to boost a post depends on how many people you want to reach. To see different budget options, go your post and click Boost Post. In the dropdown menu next to Maximum Budget, you’ll see the estimated reach for each budget. You’ll only be charged for impressions on your post, which may sometimes be less than your budget. You can see your primary payment method and access invoices from the Admin Panel on your fan page.

What is Page Promotion?

Promoting your Page from the Admin Panel is a way to create ads that will show in News Feed and on the right side of Facebook. The goal is to increase the number of Page likes.

To create an ad for your Page from your admin panel:

  1. From the top of your Page, click Build Audience
  2. Select Promote Page
  3. In the window that appears, choose your Audience, Daily Budget and the duration of your ad (you can choose to run your ad continuously or choose an end date)
  4. Click Promote Page

The amount you pay to promote your Page depends on how many people you want to reach. When you create an ad for your Page, you can click next to Daily Budget to change the maximum amount you’ll spend each day. You’ll see the estimated number of new likes your Page could get displayed in the dropdown menu.
